Enjoyed this latest episode covering The Charlatans, brought me back to the great music of the 90’s.
I’m really excited to hear your coverage on TKK (My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult). A Wax Trax classic.
I was doing lyft late night and I already had a girl in the back minding her own business watching her phone. I later got a man leaving a pub with a soccer jersey on in downtown,LA. The man gets in the front seat while I still had a passenger in the back. He tells me his name, “ I’m so&so. I’m from Manchester and I love all things Manchester!” Soccer game with Manchester got him excited, so I tell him, “Oh, then I have a treat for you.” And I put on this Charlatans album I had on a flash drive. He hears the intro and sees the name on my radio and responds. “That’s the Charlatans. I don’t like them.” “Oh? But didn’t you say that you were from Manchester. And that you loved all things from Manchester? And are the Charlatans not from Manchester?” The girl in the back broke her silence and had a response. “Yeah! You did say that!” The guy was in a huff and and rolled his eyes. It was a brief ride after for both of them. Night was busy.
There was another story playing Charlatans for a female passenger. She asked me to play whatever I wanted and so I played Charlatans: Flower. She was furious and upset. “Why would you play me that fucking depressing shit!?!?!” “You didn’t like it? I love that song.” Times I wish I had an ejector seat….
Finally got to see the Charlatans with one of my sisters some months back.
