We begin the New Year with the first of a two-part interview with legendary artist & video director Nick Egan! In this first half, Nick discusses the art college scene during the heyday of punk rock in the late 1970s and his creating album covers for The Clash, Dexys Midnight Runners, Bow Wow Wow, Malcolm McLaren, Iggy Pop, and INXS. Nick also shares with us insights from his friendship with the late Michael Hutchence of INXS.
Be sure to come back on Feb. 3, 2024, for the second part of the interview, in which Nick discusses working with the Psychedelic Furs, Duran Duran, Oasis, and Alanis Morissette. You can view Nick’s incredible portfolio of work at nickegan.com.

Oh, my goodness, there is a lot to absorb here with this interview.
First of all, Nick thank you for mentioning your friend Ken Robinson. I googled him while I was listening. I am going to follow Nick’s advice and take a listen to his TED talks.
Secondly, I am blown away by what you have done in your career. I was in high school when MTV first blasted into American households, and it literally changed how you look and feel music. You help make history with your video direction on several popular videos. You have been blessed to do what you love for a living.
Thirdly, thank you sharing your stories. Fans tend to forget that music stars (or any type of celebrity) are people at the end of the day. While your name may not be as well known to music fans, your mark on the music industry is undeniable. You are the guy who designed the iconic KICK cover! That cover and band I love! The fact that you were good friends with Keith Haring (who hails from Berks County, PA, USA and my current home) is more than coincidental. The world and the people within it are connected somehow in some way. That is exactly music and art do the best, connects people. It can connect people to an ideal, an image, a music video or just pure love of the music and/or an art piece. I heard you speak of Bridget. Others listening many not know who this particular Bridget is, yet I do. Small world.
So, in short, thank you for your art, video direction and film direction as they are brilliant. Thank you most of all with sharing your stories about the people in your professional life who became friends for life.
How amazing, getting someone of this caliber on your podcast! Laurie & Rob, I’d say this podcast is about to blow up. Well done!
